Obituary of Shirley Jean Carlton

Shirley Jean Carlton was born August 29,1932 in Tulsa,OK to Soloman and Eula Robertson Gosnell. She passed in the early morning hours, in her home, on August 7, 2014. Three weeks and one day before her 82nd birthday. While singing in a tent revival she met Harold Carlton. They married a year later. September 19th would have been their 60th anniversary. They had three children, Michael, David and Judy. They raised their family in Tulsa where Shirley was a stay at home mom until the children were in school. She then went to work outside the home. She worked for Darrell’s hamburgers in downtown Tulsa for a long time. She then worked for Linda’s Variety Store in Skiatook until her retirement. All of the time being a wonderful example of a Godly wife and mother. She was a prayer warrior, praying daily for her family and friends. Shirley enjoyed singing in church as a soloist or blending her voice with others in a group. She loved to read until her eyesight prevented it. She also looked forward to traveling with Harold, pulling their camping trailer all over the country, and to many family reunions and church camps. Shirley is survived by her husband, Harold, of the home. Their sons, Michael Carlton, of Tulsa, David Carlton and his wife, Rhonda, of Springfield, MO. And daughter, Judy Austin and her husband, Doug of Owasso, OK., 12 grandchildren,13 great grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.
