Obituary of Alvin Willis Just

Please share a memory of Alvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alvin Willis Just, our wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend went to be with the Lord on December 8, 2014. He was born on Thanksgiving, November 28, 1928 to parents Henry and Hattie Ward Just in Collinsville, OK. A third generation Oklahoman, Alvin grew up on a farm with a large extended family in the close-knit community of Collinsville. He graduated from Collinsville High School and later attended Oklahoma A & M College. On Sunday, June 20, 1948 he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Peggy Jean Rogers at the First Baptist Church in Collinsville. They lived in Tulsa and both worked at McDonnell Douglas. Alvin was an industrial engineer and used his keen mathematical mind to prepare bids on government contracts. He also worked for Boeing on projects for the NASA space program. In his later life he was a Farmers insurance agent and owned his own agency. He was devoted to his family and together with Peggy he provided a loving home on their farm for daughters, Jennifer and Jeanette. While serving his country in the Army from 1952-1954 he developed a fascination with maps. He studied a map and planned detailed trips full of adventure. The family traveled extensively all over the United States and visited historical sites, National Parks and various places of interest. They traveled to California every summer to visit relatives. Alvin was funny, friendly and kind. He was happy throughout his life and never complained. He had the gift of a servant heart and was quick to offer help. A man of faith, he lived a life of character and integrity. A special chapter in his life began when Alvin became a grandfather. It was one of his happiest times. He devoted himself to his grandchildren and became a constant in their lives. He had breakfast with them most every day and often picked them up from school. He had a special relationship with his first grandchild, Justin Rogers Anthony. They had a deep love for each other. “Papa” was Justin’s supporter, encourager and defender. They phoned each other every evening. Justin went to Heaven unexpectedly in June, 2000. Alvin took comfort in the many happy memories of their time together. He continued to be a remarkable grandfather to Jason, Julia and Jennifer Jane. He was there for them in everything and delighted in watching their lives unfold. Left to cherish his memory is his best friend and wife of 66 years, Peggy; devoted daughters, Jeanette Just and Jennifer Just Anthony; son-in-law, Dr. Jonathan Anthony and his adoring grandchildren: Jason Anthony, Julia Anthony and Jennifer Jane Anthony. Relatives and friends also mourn his passing. We will hold him in our hearts forever. A celebration of life will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 22nd at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Connie M. Ichord and Rev. Joseph A. Bias officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to: Justin Anthony Camp Friendship Fund, c/o First United Methodist Church, 1115 S. Boulder Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74119.
