Obituary of Garney V. Fielder

Garney V. Fielder, retired beautician passed away Tuesday, February 17 at the age of 91. Garney was born to James M. and Angie (Patton) Story on April 29, 1923 in Eagletown, Oklahoma. At the age of 3 she and her parents moved to Love County, she graduated from high school in Greenville, Oklahoma in 1941. After high school she took one year beauty course as an apprentice and later received her beautician’s license in February 1943 in Oklahoma City. She and Lt. Kenneth W. Fielder married on June 25, 1943. While he was enlisted in the Air Force for 18 months she followed him until he was sent to Guam. She worked as a beautician in a beauty shop in Ardmore until the war was over and her husband come home. They returned to Tulsa where he worked for the Corps of Engineers and she continued her beauty work. They loved to go fishing and Garney helped her husband with his hobby, raising prize winning orchids from around the world and judging orchid shows all over the country. Kenneth preceded her in death on June 19, 2003 6 days before their 60th wedding anniversary. She was a member of Trinity United Church since 1957. Garney was also a volunteer (Pink Lady) at St. John’s Hospital for 13 years after she retired from beauty work of 32 years. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her nephews, John and Edie Fielder and their children, Kevin and Carrie and great niece Kylie of Yukon, OK. And Tommy Fielder and his children, Matthew and Darren of Oklahoma City, OK., niece Susan Fielder of Oklahoma City, OK, adopted daughter, Peggy Vanderveer and her husband Richard of Sherman, Texas, Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel.
