Obituary of Geneta Evelyn Davies

Geneta Eveyln (Kilburn) Davies was born September 16, 1927 in Eufaula, OK to Sam & Eula (Reynolds) Kilburn and passed from this life January 30, 2017 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 89. The oldest of five siblings, she grew up in Leonard, and attended Bixby schools, where she graduated in 1945. After high school, she attended business school. Upon completion, she went to work for W. D. Barry Jr., where she worked her entire career, until Mr. Barry died. After his passing, she worked part time with his company, until her retirement in 1992. After retirement, Geneta would work with Mr. Barry's son, Norris, preparing his taxes every year, well into her 80's. In 1954, Geneta met Herb Davies, and after a brief courtship, they were married on May 22, 1954. The next year, they purchased a home in Tulsa, where they spent their 62 years of marriage together. Their son, Duane, was born in 1956. During his school years, Geneta would attend the many programs, and activities that Duane was involved in. In 1973, her youngest brother Kenny was placed in a nursing facility, and she regularly visited, and spent time with him. She regularly volunteered at the facility where Kenny lived. Geneta loved to travel, and she especially liked to vacation in Branson, where she would attend many various music shows. Geneta was extremely devoted to her family, and would always look forward to spending time with her grandchildren. Geneta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Herbert Wesley Davies; and her brothers, Jerry Kilburn and Kenny Kilburn. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Duane & Joella Davies; her grandchildren, Brooke Waite & husband Shannon Waite, Shawn Davies & wife Mandy Davies, Brittany Murry & fiancé Jon Lee, Megan Edwards & husband Brock Edwards; and 12 great grandchildren. She will lie in state 10-8pm Thursday with family receiving friends from 5-7pm at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. Her funeral will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Olivet Baptist Church.
