Obituary of Darrell W. Caviness

Darrell Wayne Caviness was born on October 11, 1941 to George and Bonnie (Essary) Caviness in Stilwell, Oklahoma.  He completed this life on June 10, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Darrell graduated from Stilwell High School in 1960 and started his career at Red Ball, Inc. of Oklahoma City, of that same year.  While working, Darrell continued his education and went on to graduate from Blackwood Business College in Oklahoma City.  After Business College, Darrell attended classes at the University of Tulsa and was a member of the US Army Reserve.

In 1969 he began working for Cities Service which eventually became Occidental Petroleum Company.  During this time he held various positions within the Tax Department.  He retired from Occidental in 2000.  In August of 1968, Darrell married Greta Redman.  They had one daughter, Nicole Caviness Wells.

In his spare time, Darrell enjoyed yard work, reading, traveling to various beaches and spending time with family, especially his two grandsons.  Darrell was a lifelong member of Victory Christian Center.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 48 years, Greta Caviness: his daughter, Nicole Caviness Wells and her husband Taylor, along with their two sons George Caviness Wells and Jack Redman Wells.  Also surviving are his cousins, Carla Paonessa and Debbie Waring of Arizona; his sister-in-law, Sheila Richardson of Broken Arrow; niece, April McKenzie of Tulsa, her husband Curtis and sons Mason and Ian McKenzie.

Darrell will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home, 3841 S. Peoria, Tulsa, OK.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Victory Christian Center, 7700 S. Lewis Ave. in Tulsa, OK. Darrell will be laid to rest in Woodland Memorial Park Cemetery, Sand Springs.
