Day, Mary Pauline "Polly" (Ellis), 89, died on Sunday, November 13, 2005 at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mrs. Day was born August 12, 1916 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma the daughter of James Paul and Esther Mabel (Polston) Ellis. Both of her grandfathers were pioneer ministers in the early days of Oklahoma while her father followed the oil fields in Oklahoma. Her family lived in Bartlesville, Ponca City, Drumright and Wewoka in her growing up years. She graduated from Drumright High School where she was a member of the Oklahoma Honor society for four years and the National Honor Society for two years. She attended East Central College in Ada for two years where she studied music. While at East Central she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. In her early years she was a member of the International Order of Rainbow Girls. She taught piano and worked for an oil company in Wewoka, Oklahoma. She married Wilton P. Day on July 30, 1941 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. They lived in Odessa, Texas until World War II. While her husband was serving in the war she moved to Wewoka and later to Tulsa. Her husband was with Amoco Petroleum Company in Tulsa. While with Amoco they were transferred to Napierville, Illinois from 1970 until 1980. While in Napierville she was president of a garden Club and helped to restore a church there. She and her husband were members of Southern Hills Baptist Church and later became members at First Baptist Church in Tulsa. In 1988, She joined Parkview Baptist Church where she was a member of the J.O.Y. Sunday School Class. She loved music and especially enjoyed attending the Tulsa Opera, Tulsa Philharmonic and the Tulsa Pops. She is survived by her son: James Paul Day and his wife Betsy of Catoosa, OK; Brother: J. Delbert Ellis and his wife Helen of Jacksonville, Florida; her Grandsons: Bill Day and his wife Kristin of Catoosa; Chris Day and his wife Jennifer of Raleigh, North Carolina; her Great Grandchildren: Alex Day and Abi Day. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 16 at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. Bill Hulse officiating. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society. The Family will receive friends from 6-8 on Tuesday at the Ninde Woodland Chapel, 5757 S. Memorial.
