Obituary of Fred Parkhill

Please share a memory of Fred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Roy Fredrick “Fred” Parkhill, born on September 21, 1935, superstitiously always said he wanted to live until his McLaren racing number of 89. He did just that, passing away peacefully on May 28, 2025, at the age of 89.

Most people knew Fred for his charismatic personality and entrepreneurial drive through Fikes Center Liquor Mart, later named Parkhill’s Warehouse Liquors and Wine. In his 44-year career, he created one of the state’s largest and most well-known liquor stores. Fred worked tirelessly trailblazing the way liquor and wine were sold and distributed in the State of Oklahoma. In 2007, his son, Lance, purchased the family business to continue the now 62-year-old legacy. Parkhill’s Warehouse Liquors and Wine is still located near the original location at the corner of 51st and Lewis.

Fred’s love for speed, adrenaline rushes and competition led him to race as number 89, competing in the prestigious CanAm series with his McLaren M8E also winning multiple SCCA Championhips- a true testament to his adventurous spirit and drive.  Beyond his professional and racing achievements, Fred loved flying airplanes, playing handball at the YMCA, talking politics and tending to his farm on Lake Oolagah. He was a valued member of Tulsa Rotary and the Elks Club, contributing to community initiatives and fostering meaningful connections throughout his life. He was also dedicated to his fraternity, Sigma Chi.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Henrietta and Roy Fuller Parkhill, as well as his brother, Joe Parkhill.  He is survived by his brother, John; his son, Lance and daughter Laura; his grandchildren, Julia and Dillon; his granddaughter, Anna Reagor and his long-time girlfriend of 28 years, Johnna Packer.   Fred will be remembered for his entrepreneurial drive, his innovation in the liquor and wine industry, love of racing cars, flying airplanes and dedication to his community. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who loved him.

A memorial service will be held on 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel where he will be laid to rest following.
