My deepest condolences to the family. I seriously don't think I would have survived puberty without Dr. Short's kind wisdom. He was a thoughtful and compassionate man that truly cared for his patients. I saw him at a medical conference years after as an adult and he graciously remembered me and greeted me as if I were family. He truly was a wonderful man and physician.

Dear Family, I offer you my deepest sympathy.
I was a sickly child back in the late 1960's, and saw Dr. Short on a regular basis quite often. Along with my parents and brother, we frequented that office on North Peoria more times than I can count. Due to that frequency, the doctors and nurses became like family. I know my parents considered him a friend, as well as their trusted doctor.
He touched many lives, and I know you will miss him dearly. You have my prayers for peace and comfort.

Jim and Darlene were so very welcoming and kind to our young family when we moved to Tulsa from Ohio in 1971. And throughout our days at OOH and TRMC, and later in IHS, it was always a pleasure to work with Jim. He was an incredibly caring physician who practiced to the highest standards. Always kind and respectful. A gift to the Osteopathic profession. It was due to the work of the good docs like Jim Short that the profession grew in every sense of the word. I was an intern and internal medicine resident when Dr. Short was a family physician on staff. He is now the last of the loyal referring physicians to the Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital (currently Oklahoma State University Medical Center during its heyday when the average census was 325 patients). He was an excellent primary care physician and very kind to all the residents and interns. I remember him as very direct, considerate and respectful of both house staff and nursing. People of his character are truly missed. Dr. Short is an icon that will be remembered forever in the history of the Tulsa Osteopathic Community.

Such a gentle, loving spirit. I am grateful that I was blessed to have made friends with this man. I loved talking to him about nursing and the field of medicine. He was always so supportive, and even at his age he had so many incredible and hilarious stories about his medical career. He was a gift of caring, compassion, and kindness. And he was funny as hell. I especially feel honored that I was able to see the relationships between him and Hope and Lisa develop. You two brought him so much joy; you could see it in his eyes. Thank you Jim for the gift you were and the many lives you touched and healed. You will be missed ❤️

Jim, meeting you was the first time that being from North Tulsa and Turley was a positive. You completed our lives in many ways. I did not know my grandfather. Hope did not get to meet her grandfather because he had passed before she was born. There you were, at every one of Hope’s events, holidays, birthdays, and powwows. I loved watching how she looked out for you. She made sure you would have a place for your walker, open your door, get your walker out. I liked your stories about Lucky the dog, Sand Springs, and your travels to Alaska, Africa, Mexico, and North Padre with your kids. I wish we could have made it back to Island House. You raised a kind hearted son that is compassionate, intelligent, funny, cares deeply, and seeks social justice. A beautiful moment was when you gave me one of your treasured necklaces and said, I love you. Thank you for taking care of my son. When I last saw you. I said those words back to you. Do not worry, I will take care of Matt. I promise. I will.
