Ronald Allen Van Tuyl was born in Muskogee, OK to Avel and Allen Van Tuyl. He has 2 siblings: Joan Van Tuyl Acosta, deceased and Dianne Van Tuyl Siner Gustin, of Knoxville, TN. He departed this life on January 19, 2026.
Ron lived most of his growing up years with his grandparents, Ira and Roscoe Van Tuyl in Porter, OK. Ron attended Muskogee Central High School and formed many lifelong friendships. He joined the Air Force in September 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1958. He was a pilot, radio technician and flew on the B-52 bombers during the Korean War.
Ron married Charlotte Ann Weaver, of Muskogee, OK in 1957, and was married for 38 years before her death in 1995.
Ron attended Northeastern State University for pre-dental classes for three years. He was accepted into three dental schools and entered the University of Missouri, Kansas City in September 1961. During his time in dental school, he managed an apartment complex and worked for the largest funeral home in Kansas City, MO. He graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in June, 1965 in the top 10% of his class. He was a member of Psi Omega and Theta Nu Epsilon while attending dental school.
Dr. Van Tuyl opened his dental practice in Tulsa, in June 1965, and practiced for 47 years, before selling his practice to Dr. Michael J. Toole. Dr. Van Tuyl was a lifetime member of the Oklahoma Dental Society and a member of the Tulsa Endo-Study Club. This Club is affectionately known as “The Poker Club”. Ron enjoyed great camaraderie and many fishing trips with his fellow members.
Ron was the father of two sons. Dr. Ronald A. Van Tuyl, Jr. of Canton, Georgia, is an ENT Physician and owns multiple medical locations serving Northern Georgia. Dr. David Sean Van Tuyl is a dentist who practices in Evergreen, Colorado, and is a co-owner of one of the franchises with Comfort Dental. He traveled to Cuba three times to meet his daughter in law Yuslainy Ramerez Van Tuyl and her family. She is now a United States citizen and resides in Colorado with her husband, Dr. Sean San Tuyl. Ron is the grandfather to 5 grandchildren: Victoria Van Tuyl, Ronald A. Van Tuyl, III, Juliette Van Tuyl, Jett Van Tuyl and Solange Ramerez Van Tuyl.
Ron was known to his grandchildren as “Papa V” and affectionately known to his friends as “VT”. He married Georgenia Brown, a Tulsa attorney and city of Tulsa Municipal Court Judge (known as Gabby to friends and family), in May 2005. He was an avid motorcyclist, a pilot, a snow skier and enjoyed many good cigars and fine bourbon. He enjoyed his time at Grand Lake where he built a home on the Langley Bluff in 1999. He retired from the practice of dentistry in 2012. He also enjoyed his condo at 2300 Riverside Drive in Tulsa.
He finished his life on his own terms under the care of Frontier Hospice, and their supportive Dr. and staff. He was surrounded by his wife, his two boys, his bonus son Moreland Sherrod, and his sister-in-law Janice Pond, and their love and support, at his death in his Tulsa home.
Dr. Van Tuyl is survived by his wife Georgenia Van Tuyl, his two sons, one daughter in law, five granchildren, one sister and one bonus son, Moreland Sherrod and his wife Michelle and daughter Merrit. He is also survived by Dr. Kevin and Janice Pond, Dr. Ansen and Kellie Pond, Kennedy, Harrison and Wesley Pond, Zackary and Kendra Burson, Ryker, Kreese and Faylee Burson, and Nathan and Olivia Pond. He is also survived by his cousin, Dr. Charles Van Tuyl and wife Kimberly Van Tuyl. There are many other nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews who share in the loss of Uncle Ron.
