Randy Dorr’s sunrise was March 24, 1964 and sunset was Wednesday, February 18, 2026. He was a longtime resident of the Tulsa area including Broken Arrow and Jenks. He was well known as a giant man of stature with a giant heart, a loving husband, step-father of 4 children in his first marriage and step-father of 2 children in his second marriage, friend, protector, mentor for special needs children and at-risk youth, hard worker, avid fisherman and sports fanatic.
Randy was born in Muskogee, then lived in Broken Arrow and Wagoner where he graduated from Wagoner High School. After graduation he served in the United States Air Force as a lineman.
He worked for two years at Hissom Memorial Center in Sand Springs, a 176-acre state institution for developmentally disabled children, then at the Lloyd E. Rader Center in Sand Springs as Police Officer IV for over 25 years until it closed in 2011. During his tenure at Rader, he also served as a Reserve Police Officer in Sperry. Randy then worked at Tulsa’s Laura Dester Children’s Center for abused and neglected children until he retired in June, 2018. He came out of retirement to work for Gault, a temporary agency doing maintenance work at the Laura Dester Children’s Center, until he retired in July, 2025.
Randy met Tresa while working at Laura Dester. They married in 2017 combining their common interests in working with young people and enjoying the pleasures of their time together boating, fishing, camping, attending concerts, traveling, plus time with family, friends and their newest 20-month-old grandson, Oliver.
Randy’s passion for fishing was unmistakable. His target was primarily crappie and catfish. This dedicated angler viewed fishing not just as a hobby, but as a lifestyle, characterized by frequent trips, technical knowledge of gear, and an intense connection to the water. Anyone who went fishing with him found that Randy knew the right place to fish and almost always came home with a catch. As he aged, he enjoyed sharing the joy of fishing’s beautiful scenery and exciting catches with his family and friends. He loved to share his fishing stories such as the “guaranteed winner” of the tournament that, “got away.”
Like his passion for fishing, his love of sports started when he was a young boy playing baseball and, of course, football. But his interest wasn’t only those two sports, it was every sport. After his step daughters graduated from Jenks High School, he continued to attend the Trojan’s football games, or watch little leaguers. But above all, he was an absolute Sooners fan. OU shirts, hats, and crimson and cream colors were a wardrobe necessity.
This giant of a man was compassionate and serious about his work, but he also had an onery side as he loved to pull pranks for laughs. And he was a talented whistler and enjoyed music.
Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis and Carl Dorr, II and his older sister, Rhonda Dorr Douglas. He is survived by his brother, Philip Dorr and wife, Kay of Broken Arrow; and half-sister, Alice Ann Schneider and husband, Tuffy of Wagoner. His stepchildren from his first marriage are Brian Holmes and wife, Shannon of Sapulpa; Kenny Tabor of Sand Springs; Kelly Tabor and wife, Amanda of Berryhill; and Rebbecca Tabor of Tulsa. He is also survived by his wife, Tresa Dorr of Jenks and stepdaughters Hayly Thompson and husband, Nathan; and Shelby Helm and fiancé, Braden Russell; his mother-in-law Margaret Disney and husband, Tim Disney; sister-in-law Laura Butler and husband, Charley Tompkins; and brother-in-law Scott Butler. His many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends and co-workers will all miss his unique mannerisms and sense of humor.
