Janice Marie (Simmons) Varner was born October 20, 1950, at St. Johns Hospital, Tulsa, OK to Leo & Ruth Simmons.  She graduated from McClain High School in 1969.  Jan was the youngest of 7 children and grew up on 5 acres in Tulsa where her family harvested vegetable gardens and gathered eggs from the nearby chicken coops.

Jan met and married Warren “Bunk” Varner on December 18, 1975.  Warren worked 47 years with American Airlines.  They enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Pensacola and later in life, they enjoyed cross-country road trips and grooming their beautiful back yard and koi fishpond.

Jan began her own small business, creating pretty silk flower arrangements and door wreaths.  She opened a booth at Windsor Market “Blossoms By Jan” selling her arrangements along with home accessories.

Jan enjoyed birthday lunches with her group of girlfriends, and time with family, and a special fondness for her first nephew, Richie.  After Bunk passed September 25, 2024, Jan moved to Legend at Tulsa Hills where she met and made friends.  Survived by Cherry Fisher, Norm Fisher, Richie Wagner, Chris & Clay Fisher and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins and all the Varner family in Springdale.

Over the span of many years, Jan & Cherry had a blast on annual trips to Amarillo to visit her parents and her oldest sister, Jeanine, along with her 5 children and their many children!

Over the last year and a half that Jan lived at Legend, Cherry visited her regularly and when she would leave, they hugged, touched noses, and exchanged “I love you” and “I love you more” and “No, I love you more” and finally, “I love you more, now shut up!” 

A special thank you goes out to the staff at Legend of Tulsa Hills for their gracious care and compassion.  Especially, June and Terry who provided a new home for Jan’s dog Lucy and Sheila who dedicated time each week to walk, read or just sit and visit with her.  A private family celebration will be held.
