Kay Lou Dixon Obituary

Kay Lou Dixon passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026. She was born on March 21, 1944, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and LuVerne Rutherford; her brother, Robert Rutherford; and her husband, Richard Elliott Dixon, the love of her life.She is survived by her son, Michael Dixon, and her daughter, Amanda Dixon.


Kay graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1962 and attended Oklahoma State University, where she was a proud member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She earned her degree in education, which she used early in her career while supporting her husband through medical school in Houston, Texas.  Kay was known for her striking beauty and impeccable sense of style. She had a lifelong passion for fashion and worked in retail for many years, where she delighted in helping women feel confident and look their best.  She was also deeply devoted to the arts and served for many years on the Board of Directors for the Tulsa Ballet. Her commitment to her community extended through her membership in the Junior League of Tulsa and her long-standing involvement with Tulsa Town Hall.


Kay was a devoted member of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church for over 30 years. In the last decade of her life, she found great joy in her enduring 50-year friendships and in the close connections she formed with her neighbors at 2300 Riverside.  Kay will be remembered for her grace, sharp wit, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends, as well as her signature gift for creating effortlessly elegant monochromatic looks.
