Wanda Marie Young Obituary
Wanda Marie Young reluctantly left this world Monday, April 6, 2026. She remained active and sharp witted prior to a brief physical decline. At 100 years of age, Wanda’s intelligence and enthusiasm for life were undiminished. Her final days were spent at home with life partner Lorene Gravitt, daughter Ruth, devoted caregivers, friends and three cats.
Wanda Marie Young was born in Tulsa, OK in 1925. She was married in Danville, IL where she gave birth to her daughter, Ruth Young of Tulsa, founder and steward of Queenies Café and Bakery until 2019. After training in Xray Technology at Indiana State University in 1954, she returned to Tulsa as a single mom and began a career in orthopedic medicine. Her most gratifying years were in service to Dr. Clio Robertson, M.D. and thousands of grateful patients. After her retirement from orthopedics, she swapped trips to the retailers for Amazon and brought personal inventory management to the home she shared for 65 years with her beloved Lorene Gravitt.
Wanda never allowed the world to pass her by, preferring to stay curious, relevant and connected to younger generations. She was a list maker who made sure all the details of life were managed with care. A dedicated birdwatcher, Wanda maintained a feeding station that was comforting to friends and family during her final days.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Ruth Young, who inherited her joie de vivre and her beloved companion of 65 years, Lorene Gravitt. She will be missed by her cherished assistant, Elizabeth Guevara and dear friend, Dr. Pam Kimbrough.
A Celebration of Life will be held May 14, 2026, 4:00 p.m. at Southminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Pause for Paws or the ornithological organization of your choice.
