Phelps, Donald "Don" DeWayne Sr., was born January 15, 1929 to Carl Edward and Madge Aline (Marshall) Phelps in Tulsa, Oklahoma and passed from this life May 15, 2009 at the age of 80. Don married Mary Ethelene Deason, in 1946, in Turley. They raised 3 sons and 1 daughter in a home filled with love, laughter and music. They lived in Tulsa, for 23 years, before moving to Inola, where they lived for 17 years. They returned to Tulsa for 7 years, and then moved to Catoosa. He was a retired welder-fitter, with a lifetime of other experiences. Don loved the Lord as his Savior all his life. He was very active in his church, Rolling Hills First Baptist Church, Catoosa, OK, as much as he could be even in his last days. Throughout his life, he sang in quartets, led worship, taught Sunday school, and was known as an encourager, always with a smile. He loved all of his family, close members, as well as the large number of extended family, very much. He received an associate degree in Vocational Technology at Rogers State University, in 1985, at the age of 56. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Carletta Scott, Lovenia Hayes, and Juanita Wilson; and his brothers, Marvin Phelps, Aaron Phelps, and Jerry Phelps. Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Ethelene Phelps; his daughter and her husband, Kelly and Rodney Jensen; his sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and EuVon Phelps, Jr., David and Susie Phelps, and Randy and Beverly Phelps; his sister and her husband, Judy and Jarrell Pell; 19 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends, all of whom will miss him very much! Don will lie in state Wednesday from 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Rolling Hills, Catoosa with final interment at Floral Haven Cemetery. Ninde Brookside Chape 918.742.5556 www.ninde.com
