Obituary of Bill Tuter

Please share a memory of Bill to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bill G. Tuter was born March 7, 1927 in Okmulgee, Ok to Herbert and Leta (Ring) Tuter. He passed from this life June 18, 2009 at the age of 82. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. After the war, he met Joy Joan Tenney and they married January 30, 1948, making Tulsa their home. To this union was born their only son, Stephen Lee Tuter on July 9, 1953. Bill retired from the US Postal Service as a Letter Carrier in 1989 at age of 62. Bill's favorite hobby was portraying the character he created, "Toot" the clown and entertaining children at parties. He also enjoyed helping the children at the Shriner's Children's hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. When Bill was 63 years old, his son Stephen finally decided to marry. This was a relief to both Bill and Joy who had almost given up on the idea entirely. From then on all they could think about was when are we going to have grandchildren. When Bill turned 69 his beloved wife of 48 years, Joy passed away. When he was 71, he welcomed his first grandchild, Seth into this world. He was so proud to finally be a grandfather. In 2000 Bill met Penalope Gove while attending church. After a whirlwind romance he married "Penny" at the age of 73. Bill and Penny loved to attend church functions, Saba Grotto dinners, Cruise vacations, and visiting with friends. In 2002, Bill welcomed a new grandchild, Hannah Joy into this world, Bill was 75 years old. In 2006, Bill's much loved wife, Penny became ill and had to be placed in a long term nursing facility. In 2007, Bill started attending church with his son and daughter-in-law. Bill enjoyed attending church so much that he would save up his appetite through the week so he could enjoy the fellowship meals every Sabbath. In 2008 at the age of 81, Bill, understanding more fully God's Will for his life, recommitted his life to the Lord in re-baptism to show his love for his Savior. In his last years, Bill's health was deteriorating and he required much more help from his family. He was so glad to be able to remain at home during much of his remaining time with us. Bill was a wonderful father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Bill is survived by his wife Penny of Glenpool; his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen & Tracey Tuter of Tulsa; 2 grandchildren; and, his brother, Jack Tuter of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy; 2 brothers; and, 4 sisters. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm Monday and a funeral service will be held 10:00 pm Tuesday, both at Ninde Woodland Chapel, 5757 S. Memorial. Graveside rites will follow at Floral Haven Cemetery, Broken Arrow, OK
