Obituary of Dorothy Lockridge

Dorothy Helen (Rogers) Lockridge was born November 1, 1935 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to James and Doshia (Lanfair) Rogers and passed from this life in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 3, 2009 at the age of 73. She moved to Muskogee at the age of one month after the death of her father to live with her Aunt Mary who raised her after her mother's death in 1947. She attended Douglass Elementary and Manual Training High School. She moved to Tulsa in 1956 where she met James "Red" Nelson to whom two children were born; Dale and Debra. In 1963 she met the most wonderful, caring, unselfish, giving and best man of her life, Billy Don Lockridge. To this union one son was born, Donald Ray in 1964. Preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Red Nelson, Dorothy is survived by her husband of over 40 years; Billy Don, of the home; her daughter, Debra; her two sons, Dale and Donald Ray; three grandchildren, LaWanda, Teondre and Dujuan; three great grandchildren, Ramieyanna Tiger, Tekiah Long and Amiah Grant; a host of extended children, beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren whom all called her Granny Helen; a host of cousins in Phoenix, Arizona; a special cousin Elbert Alexander whom she was raised with in Muskogee, Oklahoma; and a very special childhood friend in Hampton, Virginia, Mrs. Gloria Johnson and family. Dorothy will lie in state 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home with family visitation from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Crown Hill Cemetery.
