Obituary of Alana Atwell

Please share a memory of Alana to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our mom, Alana (Van Deusen) Atwell was born August 11, 1945 in Fairfax, OK to William H. Van Deusen, Jr & Lila Mae (Schafer) Van Deusen. She passed from this life, surrounded by her family on April 22, 2016. We won’t discuss age as Alana would not be happy! She grew up in Fairfax. She loved her mom, dad and two baby brothers so very much. They were her everything. Alana loved to have fun, make mud pies, play in irrigation ditches, and she loved to dance. They would invite her friends over, put on their socks and dance the night away. Around the age of 12 she and the family moved to Tulsa. It was here she met some of her lifelong friends. One day a modeling agency came to her high school. She raced home and asked her dad if she could model. He asked her if this was truly what she wanted, as it cost $25 which was a lot in those days, and she said yes. She was a natural! She modeled for Clarks, J.A. Brown and Renbergs, loving every minute of it. Mom would go on to find the love of her life, Brian and raise 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandkids. They loved to travel and work in the yard. They both helped care for both sets of their parents during their senior years. She loved her family and friends beyond measure. She would help anyone; however she could, whenever she could. Alana was very blessed and we were blessed to have her. Alana is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Rick Van Deusen & Randy Bill Van Deusen. She is survived by her husband, Brian Frederick Atwell; her daughter, Dawn Smith and her husband Jeff; her son, Scott Atwell and his wife Debbie; her grandchildren, Autumn, Blake, Haydin, Hope & Alexis; 2 great-grandsons, DJ and Drake; her nephew Quentin Van Deusen and his wife Ismir and their children Joserina & Thomas; many cousins; grand nephews Ranger & Kahooch; and her 4 grandpups, Baby, Romeo, Sooner & Boomer. Alana will lie in state 10-8pm Monday with family receiving friends from 5-7pm and her funeral service will be held 2pm, all at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens following the service. Ninde Brookside Chapel ninde.com 918-742-5556
