Obituary of Jone Alice Walenta

Please share a memory of Jone to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jonie Walenta was born in Tulsa, OK on November 1, 1928, to Emery Sidney and Jessie Katherine (Ballew) Goss. She passed away Monday, June 20, 2016 at the age of 87. Jonie was married for 66 years to the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Walenta. Following graduation from Tulsa Central High School in 1946, she went to work for First National Bank in Tulsa. She loved her job so much that she would walk two miles every day in heels to get there, which was quite a feat! Bob and Jonie met at her parent’s house where he rented a room while attending school in Tulsa. They soon became engaged and Jonie ended her five-year career at the bank. She was active for many years with the Tulsa Mrs. Club, Tulsa Ski Club and other organizations. She also actively volunteered with The Tulsa Boys Home, The Salvation Army Auxiliary, Tulsa Assistance League and St. John Auxiliary. Jonie was known for her beautiful blue eyes, her smile and sharp wit. She was always generous with her compliments and had a fun and loving personality. She was a devoted and active wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Jonie enjoyed a full and interesting life which included traveling, snow skiing, playing tennis, golf and many other outdoor activities. Jonie is survived by her husband, Bob; their three daughters, Michele Scott and her husband, Ed, Sydney Young, Leslie DeVries and her husband, David; six grandchildren, Erin Walenta, Robbie Walenta and his wife, Alex, Courtney Wiles and her husband, Justin, Hilary DeVries, Alison Locke and her husband, Zach, and Marty Young; five great grandchildren, Tanner Wiles, Dylan Wiles, Lola McFeeley, Dax Wiles and Harper Locke. Jonie was preceded in death by her son, Chris; her sister, Geraldine; and her parents, Emery and Jessie. The rosary will be said at 7:00 pm Thursday, June 23 and a funeral mass will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, June 24, both at Christ the King Catholic Church.
