Obituary of Margaret Evans

Margaret Jean McLennan was born on November 27, 1914, to Irma Elizabeth Mathews and Lamar McLennan in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She graduated from Classen High School, attended Ward Belmont College and the University of Oklahoma, and graduated from the University of Missouri. Upon graduation, she married John Newton Booth and settled in Oklahoma City, where they raised their three children: Ellen, Jean Lee, and John Christopher. She was active in many organizations and enjoyed participation and leadership opportunities as President of the Oklahoma City PTA Council, member of the Oklahoma City Library Board, member of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), member of the Robert E. Lee Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), and President of the Oklahoma City Chi Omega Alumnae Association. In 1966, Jean moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she lived many happy years and continued her active community life as member of the Santa Fe Fiesta Council, President of the Santa Fe Chi Omega Alumnae Association, Regent of the DAR Stephen Kearney Chapter, and State Regent of the New Mexico DAR. After the death of her husband, William H. Evans, Jean moved in 1983 to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to live near family. She was member and President of the Tulsa DAR, Regent of the Tulsa DAR, President of the UDC Clement A. Evans Chapter, Oklahoma President of UDC, and member of the Tulsa Shakespearean Society. She is survived by her daughters Ellen Booth Vester of Tulsa, OK and Jean Lee Booth Sims of Lansing, NY, granddaughters Elizabeth Anne Luke Boozer, Margaret Lee Luke Kobos, Hallie Jean Sims, Stephanie Barth, and Sarah Booth, and great-grandsons Robert McLennan Boozer, John Bradshaw Boozer, and William Chilton Kobos. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Tulsa Library Trust, the Gilcrease Museum Association, or Tulsa Opera. Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Tulsa. Committal will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
