Baker, Thelma May was born February 27, 1916 in Ozark, AR to James R. Jones and Tessie (Shropshire) Jones. She died peacefully, Saturday, September 27, 2008, at the age of 92. Thelma moved to the Okemah, OK area with her family when she was 2 years old. She attended school at Prairie Grove, Sand Springs (near Okemah) and at Tiger Flat where 16 of her siblings and first cousins attended and the teacher, Beulah Webb, was also her first cousin. She married James Morris Baker on March 14, 1936 and they were married for 63 years before his death in 1999. While living in the Okemah area they owned and operated several businesses. They moved to Jenks, OK in 1956 and then over the next several years resided in Okmulgee, Blackwell, and Enid before retiring and moving back to Jenks in 1973. She was a dispatcher for Mohawk Petroleum and Rock Island Oil and Refining from 1957 to 1972. She was the most loving Mother and Grandmother and the most important thing in her life was her family. She enjoyed watching her two sons play sports, never missing a game. She loved camping and fishing with family and friends. Thelma was an excellent homemaker, seamstress, cook and gardener, having a garden until she was 91 years old. She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, an infant child, one brother, Thurman Jones and one sister, Jewel Baker and son-in-law, E. G. Featherston. She is survived by two daughters, Sue Featherston, of Tulsa, OK, Dolores (Don) Bradley, of Jenks, OK; two sons, Gary (Liz) Baker, of Ponca City, OK and Greg (Pat) Baker, of Tulsa, OK; seven grandchildren, Denise Weber, of Wellington, KS, Lorrie Chavez, of Salina, KS, Teena Hillburn, of Broken Arrow, OK, Lance Baker, of Euless, TX, Shelley Hills, of Tulsa, OK, Jess Barnes, of Stillwater, OK, Eric Barnes, of Jenks, OK; two step grandchildren, Danielle Wolford, of Gaylord, MI and Scott Bradley, of Tulsa, OK; 16 great-grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; two sisters, Wanda Teakell, of Jenks, OK and Dorothy Davis, of Castle, OK; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Jones, of Tulsa and Virginia Baker, of Broken Arrow; a special cousin, Anna Parker, of Wewoka, OK and a host of other relatives, nieces and nephews. Service 10:00 A.M. Wednesday Jenks Bethel Baptist Church interment Highland Cemetery, Okemah, OK. Ninde Brookside Chapel 918-742-5556.
