Obituary of Matt Brown

The life of Matt Brown will be celebrated at 3:30pm on Wednesday, April 12, at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, 1301 South Boston, Tulsa, OK. Matt was the President of Brown, Kinion and Co., CPAs. He is survived by his wife, Susan Birks Brown, and his son, Spencer Wade Brown, of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Angie Ratliff Smith and Dave Smith, Jr., and his grandson, Collin Smith, all of Edmond, OK.
Matt served Boston Avenue Church on the Administrative Board, Finance Committee, and as an Elementary-age Sunday School Teacher and Choir parent. He and his family and the family of Ron and Jackie Reichman enjoyed the months they were responsible for the love and care of infant Lydia Bailey, whose sister was critically ill from mercury poisoning.
Matt graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BBA in Accounting; he was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He graduated from Muskogee High School, where he was President of his Senior Class.
In 1998, the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce honored Matt as the Citizen of the Year. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary, Int'l and served as President of the Broken Arrow Rotary. For the Saint Francis Hospital - Broken Arrow Foundation, he served as a Director and Vice President. He had been the Chairman of the Board for the Broken Arrow Medical Center.
Matt served as Chairman of the Broken Arrow Chamber and on the Board of the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce. He was a founding member of the Broken Arrow Public Schools Foundation and the Broken Arrow Golf Authority, which directed the development of Battle Creek Golf Club.
For the Tulsa Area United Way Campaign, he chaired the Broken Arrow Division. He was honored by Arkansas Valley State Bank for witnessing and assisting in the apprehension of a bank robber. For Boy Scout Troop 222, John Knox Presbyterian Church, he was an Assistant Scoutmaster. He chaired the Pinewood Derby for Pack 7, Barnard Elementary. Matt was an avid golfer and enjoyed 5 Hole-in-Ones.
Matt was special to many people, including his mother, Georgia Brown of Muskogee; his sister Mary Murphy and family of Tulsa; his sister Glenda Brown and family of Barling, AK; his sister Dorothy Brantley and family of Ft. Smith, AK; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, E.G. and Dorothy Birks of Talala, OK, and Sunshine. He loved and is loved by the extended Brown family and the extended Birks family. Odell Brown, his beloved father, a wonderful uncle, Roy Kingston, and a very dear nephew, Dirk Brantley, preceded him in death.
