Obituary of Mary Wade
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Nickell Wade died peacefully at home on June 13, 2009 following a long battle with ovarian cancer. The third child of Nelle and John Nickell, Mary was a lifelong resident of Tulsa Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Phillip D. Wade, her parents, and her sister, Nelle L. Taylor.
Born on March 14th 1934, Mary graduated from Will Rogers High School and attended the University of Tulsa. She married Phillip D. Wade on March 4, 1968. She worked for several oil and gas companies in Tulsa, retiring from Texaco in the mid 1980s. After retirement, some of her favorite past times included gardening, sewing, and working crossword puzzles. She and Phil had a second home on Big Sugar Creek in McDonald County, Missouri, where they spent many happy days. Fishing was a favored activity at Big Sugar Creek as it was a traditional Nickell family pastime that Mary and her sisters learned from their father. Mary and Phil had no children of their own but instead enjoyed the company of Mary's nieces and nephews.
Mary is survived by two sisters, Julia A Jordan (William H. Jordan) of Norman Oklahoma and Cora M. Hawkins of Bella Vista, Arkansas and her close cousins Tom C. and Margie K. Nickell. She is also survived by three nephews, Phillip L Hawkins II of Rogers Arkansas, Sam E. Taylor, Jr. (Patricia A Taylor) of Plano, Texas, and Jeff S. Jordan (Rossann Mosher) of Denver, Colorado, and three nieces, Valerye K. Strochak (Adam P. Strochak) of Bethesda Maryland, Allyson K. Hawkins (Vance M. Laine) of Normal, Illinois and Kathryn M. Shively (Daniel D. Shively) of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She also had seven grand nieces and nephews as well.
A memorial service is to be held on Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel at 2:00 in the afternoon.
