James Claud (Jim) Netherton, Jr. was born September 11, 1921 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to James Claud and Ruth Anna (Paronto) Netherton and passed from this life July 15, 2009 at the age of 87. Jim graduated from Northeastern High School in Oklahoma City in 1939 continuing his educational pursuit at Oklahoma State University which was interrupted by serving in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 142nd Combat Engineering and the 42nd Infantry Division. Jim participated in the European Theater and earned both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Upon his honorable discharge Jim returned to collegiate study at O.S.U. and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture and Engineering in 1946. He labored as a draftsman and architect designing the home his family lived in throughout the remainder of his life at 3130 E. 44th Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma. After his daughter was born Jim was again called into service for his country during the Korean conflict. He was sent from Camp McCoy in Wisconsin to serve as a Liaison Officer in Austria. Upon his return stateside and happy reunion with his family Jim launched his engineering firm in Tulsa, beginning as James C. Netherton, Jr., Consulting Engineer and evolving through partnerships, incorporation and eventually sold to become Matrix Architects and Engineers. Not one to sit idle Jim busied himself with semi-retirement and his new company, Netherton & Associates from 1984-2005. Preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jeanne (De Bolt) Netherton in March of 2003 Jim is survived by his daughter and her husband, Nancy and Roger Elliott; his son, James C. Netherton, III; and his granddaughter and her husband, Emma Elliott and Robert Kirkpatrick. A Memorial Service will be held at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009. He will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
