Obituary of Wanda Franks

Please share a memory of Wanda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Born November 13, 1929 Died May 23, 2012 Wanda passed away while visiting her daughter in Phoenix early Wednesday morning at the age of 82. She was surrounded by daughter Camille, son-in-law Jeremy, and daughter Michelle. Wanda was born in Tulsa, OK to O.R. and Nell P. Davis. She attended elementary and junior high school in Tulsa, and graduated from High School in Orange, Texas. Wanda completed business school in Orange, Texas. In 1958, she married Edwin B. Franks in Houston, TX. The couple lived in there until 1965, when they moved to Tulsa. Both Ed and Wanda were very active in round dancing with several groups (they even held sessions in their Tulsa home with friends), enjoyed square dancing with the Boston Avenue Squares, and in a variety of ways through BAUMC. During her time in Tulsa, Wanda worked as a secretary with several law firms, including Harold and Harold and Dan Rogers. Wanda continued to be active in dancing through a variety of clubs around Tulsa over the years. She led a very active life up to the time of her death, dancing with her Zumba Gold class at the 'Y' just weeks before her trip to Arizona. At the time of her death she was an active and vital member of the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church assisting with the Altar Guild and the weekly attendance and as a long-time member of the Chancel Choir and the Homebuilders class. She also was a graduate of several Disciple Bible studies courses and was a member of the Emmaus community. Wanda also volunteered regularly with Meals on Wheels and the Assistance League of Tulsa. Wanda was a proud member of the cast in several BABA presentations. Her last BABA role was that of dancing the jitterbug in the Wizard of Oz. Wanda was a bright star and a blessing in the eyes of all those who knew and loved her. By her faith and actions she taught us all to be kinder, and more patient, caring and accepting of others. She will be missed not only by her family but by her community. Wanda is preceded in death by her husband Edwin B. Franks and her brother Richard (Dick) Davis of Osage City, Kansas. Wanda is survived by two loving daughters and their families; Camille (Franks) Mardis and husband Jeremy, granddaughters Carly and Jessica of Phoenix, AZ, and Michelle (Franks) Horgen and husband Bruce, grandchildren Kali and Reece Alger of Tulsa, OK. She is also survived by her brother Warren Davis and his wife Marjorie of Little Rock, AR, and sister-in-law Madeline Davis of Osage City, Kansas and a host of nieces and nephews.
