Obituary of Mary Jacklin
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Ann Jacklin was born on December 13, 1928 in Kansas City, MO and adopted by Robert and Mary (Cannon) McDowell. Mary Ann passed from this life in her home in Sapulpa, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the age of 83.
Mary Ann graduated from Tulsa's Central High School in 1947. She spent her freshman and sophomore year at Connecticut College and went on to receive a degree at OU where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.
With a passion for volunteer work, Mary Ann hosted many political and community fundraisers, served on church committees and was a founding board member of the Sapulpa Charity Ball. She was also a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sapulpa, Southern Hills Country Club and the Oaks Country Club. She was an avid gardener and an excellent cook. Her flair for creative design was evident everywhere in her home. She made personalized needlepoint Christmas stockings for each person in the family, as well as many for friends.
Although known for being blunt at times, Mary Ann will be remembered most for her compassionate and generous nature. She always knew how to help a friend, whether it be with a covered dish, a party or a supportive phone call. Her generosity spread to strangers as well. As the deadline for Angel Tree gifts at church or a local store grew near, she would take every name off the tree and buy gifts for the children who were left. Mary Ann was a loving wife to Tony, a caring mother, and a doting Granny.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, H. M. "Tony" Jacklin, Jr., of the home; a son, Lon "Mack" Jackson, of Sapulpa; a daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Tony Clyde, of Tulsa; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Steven and Petra Jackson, of Tulsa; a brother, Robert McDowell, Jr., of Tulsa; 5 grandchildren, Kara Gaulin, of Peachtree City, GA, Marcus Jackson, of Sapulpa, OK, Jordan Jackson and wife Marisa, of Tyler, TX, Tilda Clyde and Zoe Jackson, both of Tulsa; 2 great grandchildren, Malachi Jackson, of Sapulpa and Weston Gaulin, of Peachtree City, GA, and her niece and nephews. The family would like to thank Tranquility Hospice for their care and support.
