Obituary of Florence Roelofsen

Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Florence Melanie Roelofsen, lovingly called "Oma," was born the third of eleven children to Theo and Oerip Blaset on October 17, 1921 in Makassar, a city on the island of Celebes in Indonesia. She departed this life surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 to be with our Lord and to join her family and her beloved husband, Arie. Florence is survived by her three children: daughter Betty deJong of Tulsa, daughter Janny Cooper and son-in-law John Cooper of Edmond, son Gerrit Roelofsen and daughter-in-law Deanna Roelofsen of Jenks; four grandchildren: Christie and Derek Man, Adam Roelofsen and Kristen Shields, Jennifer Cody, and Jake Roelofsen; five great grandchildren: Christine, Aaron, Caela, Courtland and Gracie; and extensive family residing in The Netherlands, including sisters Elvien Eijsink, Dinah vanderPot, Riet Krusemann, Fien Kraak and Jet Molenaar, and brother Broer Blaset. Florence met and married Arie while he was serving in the Dutch Army and stationed in Indonesia. They moved from Indonesia to The Netherlands in 1949 and then from The Netherlands to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1957. Florence loved to serve her family, friends and anyone in need. She was loving, generous, compassionate and kind. She blessed many with her joy of singing and dancing. Above all, she loved God and her family. Florence was a long-time member of Southminster Presbyterian Church, where she served as deacon for many years and volunteered many hours in the church office. She brought much joy to home-bound elderly, together with Arie, through their many years of volunteer work for Meals on Wheels. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florence's memory to The Alzheimer's Association, 6465 S. Yale, Suite 312, Tulsa, OK 74136. Private family services are scheduled.
