Obituary of Marthelle Christman
Please share a memory of Marthelle to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marthelle Peugh Gose Christman was born July 4, 1918 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the daughter of Ofa Isaac and Sarah (Miller) Peugh. She passed from this life on Sunday, July 1, 2012 in Sugar Land, Texas at the age of 93.
Marthelle was married to Jess Willard Gose who preceded her in death on June 26, 1969. She later married Robert Henry Christman who preceded her in death on February 4, 2005.
Marthelle was an outstanding cook and home-maker, having studied within the "Home-Economist" curriculum at Oklahoma State University (then Oklahoma A&M) following graduation from high school. She worked for Public Service Company Of Oklahoma as a staff Home-Economist and put on cooking demonstrations at county fairs and various public events. This experience generated many interesting stories. Local Tulsa CBS affiliate KOTV offered Marthelle a job hosting a weekly cooking show but she declined due to her dedication towards her family and serving as "home-maker", a very important job in itself. Those of you with Tulsa roots might be interested to know that KOTV later offered the cooking show job to a lady named Betty Boyd who did accept their offer and thus provided Ms. Boyd's start on what became a lifelong local television career. Marthelle was a very devoted mother and always did what was necessary to help provide a good upbringing and support to her family. Barbie and Ted fondly remember such seemingly simple things as a midday summer picnic on a blanket under the shade of a tree in the backyard during summer break from grade school.
Following the death of Willard, Marthelle began a new work career as real estate agent in Tulsa and then later took a job as a loan officer for Sooner Federal Savings and Loan. In later years she also helped manage and prepare large dinners for events at Asbury Methodist Church where the family attended worship for many years. Marthelle was a devoted wife, homemaker, and mother who took great pride in her family and always did what was necessary to support and nurture them and provide a good and close-knit family environment.
In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Lee Smith. She is survived by her sister, Betty Jo McAulay of Lenexa, Kansas; her daughter, Barbara Jo "Barbie" Gose Tarske & her fiance Jerry Counce of Richmond, Texas and her former husband Steve Tarske of Corpus Christi, Texas; her son, Ted Gose and his wife Jan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her step-son Sherwood "Woody" Christman and his wife Jenifer. Grandchildren, Sean Gose, Amanda Hobson, Danielle Gose, Jennifer Gallegos, Stephanie Tarske and Chad Tarske; her Step-Grandchildren, Ivan Sturgeon, Aaron Sturgeon, Brian Sturgeon and Connor Christman.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012 in the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. Dr. William C. Mason officiating.
