Obituary of Clarence Lain

Lain, Clarence Wilson, 90, passed way on Tuesday, August 8, 2006. Born May 16, 1916, near Blair, Oklahoma to Gideon Daniel and Florence Hubbard Lain (now laid to rest at the Blair Cemetery), Clarence was 1 of 10 children, having 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Clarence excelled in may sports, but especially basketball, baseball and track. He attended Oklahoma A&M University, now known as Oklahoma State University, where he was a member of the cattle judging team. At the onset of World War II, Clarence was drafted into the U.S. Armed Forces. He achieved the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Boise Idaho Airfield. Later, he was attached to the 32nd Pan AQ and Airbase Squadron, stationed at the U.S. Air Base in Tucson, AZ. After being injured and discharged from the U.S. air Force in 1943, he joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, where he served his state for several years. Clarence there after signed on with Safeway Stores, Inc., for 20 years of gainful employment. Subsequent to his career with Safeway, Clarence dedicated 15 years to the Oklahoma District Court System, serving as Bailiff and clerk for several judges. Clarence married in 1951, to Edna Noss, and gained a stepson, David Noss. David passed away in 1999. After 47 years of a loving marriage, Edna passed away in 1997. A devoted member of Asbury United Methodist church for several years, Clarence met Ella Broyles, through the Asbury Choir and Tweenagers. Clarence and Ella married in March of 2002, sharing four and half beautiful years together. Clarence survived by his beloved and cherished wife Ella Broyles Lain, one brother, John Lain of Butler, OK; 2 sister, Beau Underwood of Ft. Worth, TX and Dorothy Wise Tabor of Kalkaska, MI; 4 loving daughters, Deborah Brazeal, Regina Stanley, Rhonda Braun, and Nancy Kavanaugh; daughter-in-law, Carole Noss of Tulsa; 13 grandchildren...each a better person for having known any part of him, for any length of time. Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., at Ninde Woodland Chapel, 5757 S. Memorial. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2006 at Asbury United Methodist Church Chapel. Ninde Woodland, 742-5556, www.ninde.com
