Obituary of Tereva Kerr

Tereva "Terry" Sue Kerr, was born on July 16, 1949 in Tulsa to Walter and Zelda Thompson. She passed from this life Friday, May 7, 2010 in Tulsa at the age of 60.
Terry grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1967. She went on to earn a master's degree in education from Northeastern State University.
She began her career as a special education teacher with Sapulpa Public Schoos before becoming the state's first director for Special Olympics. She spent nearly 15 years with Special Olympics, organizing Oklahoma's first statewide games and accompanying kids to meets throught the country. She later went to work for The Gatesway Foundation, where she helped organize its first balloon festival. In 1997, Terry joined the developement staff at The University of Tulsa, where she served as senior developement director, overseeing fundraising for the College of Law and sharing her experience as a seasoned and respected mentor to her colleagues.
Terry was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her two sons, Josh Kerr and Ben Kerr and his wife Heather; her two grandchildren, Ashton and Bennett Kerr; her two brothers, Jim and Kirk Thompson; her sister, Vicki Grace; and Don Kerr, her caregiver and ex-husband.
Funeral servicses will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Southern Hills Baptist Church with Dr. William L. Hester, Jr. officiating. Pallbearers will be Josh Kerr, Ben Kerr, Don Kerr, Jim Thompson, Kirk Thompson, Danny Munson and David Grace. Interment will be in the Carney Cemetery, Carney, Oklahoma Thursday at 12:00 p.m.
