Obituary of Leslie Marks

Leslie Dewitt Marks, 82, died on Monday, December 18, 2006. Born May 12, 1924 in Leon, Kansas the son of Arthur Laverne and Audrey May (Elder) Marks. He was raised in the farming community of Booneville, Arkansas where he graduated from the Booneville High School. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He then entered Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas where he graduated with a B.S. in Math Education in 1951. He received a M.A. in Educational Administration from Peabody College in Nashville, TN in 1956. He married Virginia Daniels from Pottsville, Arkansas on July 18, 1952. He taught math in Russellville (AR) Jr. and Sr. High Schools for four years. He moved to Tulsa where he taught math at Edison and Wright Jr. High Schools. He then worked as a counselor at Monroe and Whitney Jr. High Schools. He retired from the Tulsa Public Schools in 1986 after a total of 36 years in educational service. He was a dedicated member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over 56 years serving on the Session, was a delegate to all levels of church government and directed OK Synodic Youth Camp for many years. During his retirement years he enjoyed golf, home-improvement projects, books and music. Les placed his family above all else. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Virginia ("the best things that ever happened to him"); his daughter: Jennifer Martin and her husband Charlie of Florence, KY; his son: David Marks and his wife Melinda of Albuquerque, NM; his grandchildren: Stephanie, Emily, Jared and Daniel; his brothers: Robert Lowell Marks of Tulsa, OK; Arthur Lee Marks of Troy MI and Lloyd Watson Marks of Chandler, AZ. The family will receive friends from 6-8 on Thursday at Ninde Woodland, 5757 S. Memorial. Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church with interment in Memorial Park. The Family requests that memorials be made to the Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 2801 S. 129th E. Ave., Tulsa, OK 74134.
