Obituary of Charles Meckfessel

Charles Glen Meckfessel was born June 28, 1941 to Glen Charles and Thelma Mae (Corzine) Meckfessel on the family farm just north of Garfield in Pawnee County, Kansas. He passed from this life peacefully at home, surrounded by his beloved family Friday, August 3, 2012 after fighting the recurrence of a rare form of bile duct cancer. He was 71. Charles married Mary Ann Fleske on August 27, 1961. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Fort Hays State University in Kansas in 1964 and the two moved to Tulsa a few years later. Charles was Vice Chairman of the Board at American Bank and Trust Co. where he worked for almost forty years. Prior to that, he served in a variety of financial positions at the Fourth National Bank and Trust Co., Price Waterhouse Co. and Miner and Adams, CPAs in Great Bend, Kansas. He was Secretary-Treasurer at the City of Tulsa-Rogers County Port Authority for over 30 years. Charles was a long-time member of Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served as Treasurer and, most recently as an elder. He is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Mary Ann; two daughters and four grandchildren, Jennifer Goldstein and her husband, Gary and their children, Caleb Glen and Gabriel of Chicago, IL; and Julie Keeney and her husband, Christopher and their children, Nicole and Colin of San Diego, CA. Charles was the eldest of three children and is also survived by his brother, Eldon Meckfessel and his wife, Pat; his sister, Phyllis Foster; his aunt, Wilma Vanover, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute in Charles' memory to Hospice of Green Country, The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, or the Arkansas River Historical Society. A funeral service will be held 5:30 pm Sunday at Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church. A graveside committal will held in Garfield, Kansas.
