George Theron Bynum, Jr., 85, died peacefully on January 16, 2007. Born April 4, 1921 the son of Maude (Bradley) and George Theron Bynum. He attended Marquette Elementary and Tulsa Central High School. He completed his education at Spartan School of Aeronautics and Oklahoma A&M. George worked as an aeronautical engineer for Curtis Wright Corporation before joining his father at the G.T. Bynum CO. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre and later with the 45th Division in the Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1950, he married Joann Severson with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. They worked side by side at G.T. Bynum CO to manufacture oilfield equipment and later pre-stressed concrete related machinery. George was a member of Tulsa Manufacturer's Club, serving as their president in 1956-57. He was active in the Tulsa Rotary Club, Cedar Ridge Country Club, and the Tulsa Power Squadron, elected their commander in 1986. George enjoyed flying, earning his pilot's license in 1946, golfing, skiing and boating. He will be remembered best for his easy laugh and endearing charm. Preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Bynum Crow; his wife, Joann; his son, George Theron "Ted" Bynum, III; and granddaughter Georgia Katherine Russell. Surviving and remembering George are his daughter: Katherine Bynum Russell; daughter-in-law: Suzanne LaFortune Bynum. Grandchildren: G.T. Bynum, IV (Susan), Lindsey Bynum, Maggie Szafranski (J.P.), Piper Bynum and Bynum Russell. He recently celebrated the birth of two great grandsons: Jack Szafranski and Robert Bynum. Memorial Mass will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 19th at Christ the King Catholic Church.
