Obituary of Mary Smith

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Smith, Mary Louise, 91, died Monday. Mary was born January 25, 1915 in Kansas City, Missouri to her parents Dwight & Minnie (James) Smith. Upon completion of High School and after her collegiate studies Mary worked for Texaco Oil where she retired after many years as an Executive Assistant. Mary joined the service organization Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) in 1949, and was a lifelong member of the Beta Gamma Chapter. She was a devoted and active member for her entire adult life, volunteering her skills and resources to others in need for as long as her health permitted. Mary held many offices in the Beta Gamma Chapter including President several times. She served as Tulsa Area Council President in 1953. She was State President in 1959-60. She worked many years with the ESA Foundation before it was even the ESA Foundation. Mary attended many ESA International Council Conventions until 1993 in Scottsdale, AZ, which was her last IC Convention. She served as IC Recording Secretary and in other chairmanships. She helped form several ESA chapters including Alpha Rho in Broken Arrow. Mary enjoyed working with others and was especially touched by causes that affected families, children in particular. She was a mentor to many of the women in ESA, and took care of her mother and sister until they passed, (her mother was 103 at the time of her death). Mary made many other friends in the Tulsa community during her association with ESA who will also miss her very much. She was known for her loving and gentle disposition--a smile always on her face. Mary resided at St. Simeon's Episcopal Home for nearly 12 years. While at St. Simeon's, Mary was provided great love, comfort and care by their staff, aides, nurses, doctors, and other caregivers, for which her family and friends will be everlastingly grateful. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Billie Smith Tucker, and her beloved ESA sorority sister, Lou Olin. Mary is survived by a great niece, Kelly Tucker Burr of Encino, CA and a great nephew, Tracy A. Tucker, of Van Nuys, CA, as well as countless ESA sorority sisters and longtime friends. Mary will lie in state Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at our Ninde Woodland Chapel located at 5757 S. Memorial. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Simeon's Episcopal Home in their Saint Anna's Chapel located at 3701 N. Cincinnati Ave in Tulsa, Oklahoma followed by a reception, with final interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
