Dr. Eugene "Gene" W. Lewis joined his beloved wife, "Pat", on Monday, June 7, 2010, with his loving family by his side. He was 86 years young.
Gene was born on March 5, 1924 in Tulsa, OK to Frank E. and Grace (Harris) Lewis. Gene graduated Will Rogers High School in 1942. He attended the University of Tulsa where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He was called to service during WWII and was honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant, U.S. Army medical corp. He attended Ohio State University and then on to Kansas City Dental College, graduating with his Doctorate of Dental Science degree. This is where he met the love of his life, Cecelia "Pat" Kaufman. Gene and Pat were married on June 24th, 1950 and settled in Tulsa. Gene began practicing dentistry in 1950 and retired in 1990.
He loved listening to and playing his music and was a great jazz drummer and band leader. He also loved dancing with his sweetheart Pat. Gene was the most kind, compassionate and loving human being. He never met a person he didn't like. He always greeted you with a hearty smile and a firm handshake. He enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. Gene was known for his honesty, integrity, kindness, compassion and love for all of his family, patients, friends, doctors, nurses and caregivers. He will be sorely missed by all, especially his family and friends and his canine companion "Mac".
Gene was an active member and past president of The Tulsa Men's Club, a member of the Tulsa Lion's Club and was a Master Mason. He was a founding member and past president of SPOH and a member of ODA, ADA, TCDS and numerous other organizations. He adored the game of golf and was a former member of Cedar Ridge Country Club.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carolyn Dell Lewis and in 2008, his beloved wife of 58 years, Cecelia C. "Pat" Lewis. He is survived by his daughters, Beverly K. Lewis, Rhonda J. Breaux and her husband, Jerry and a son, Stanley E. Lewis, all of Tulsa; 3 grandchildren, Tyler and Nathan Breaux and Elizabeth Lewis; 2 sisters-in-law, Evelyn and her husband, Jerold Bell and Betty Kaufman; cousins, Iverna Morgan and Hank and Mona Hartgers and their families.
