John was just the greatest guy - always funny and kind - the best boss I ever had. John and I worked together at Sabre/AA - he was one year and one day older than my Dad. I was 35 when John was my supe and he always knew when I'd been out too late the night before. He told me once that if I lived long enough I would conform. I told John he was just a crazy ole guy (keep in mind John was 56 at the time) and that I would NEVER conform - he just didn't know what he was talking about.
We remained friends for many, many years - like everyone else who has ever met John - and one day I woke up, an old Republican conservative. I called John and said "John, guess what? I conformed". John said "See, I told ya".
John was a treasure. Friday was a sad day for us, but Heaven's doors were open for John.
My condolences to his family.
