Jerry Madison was born Jan. 3, 1922 to D.L. "Bit" and Bessie T. (Dixon) Madison of Big Cabin, OK. He was reared in Big Cabin and Sapulpa, OK by his "Papa" Edward Dixon. He passed from this life on Monday August 13, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
During his tour of duty in the US Army Air Corps he served on the islands of Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Biak as a teletype operator. He was known to hand deliver military messages up and down the mountainside between ground to sky munitions operators. He was credited for saving lives by installing generators for Army surgeons that had been operating with flashlights during blackouts.
Jerry later worked many years for McDonnell Douglas and Rockwell International corporations as a manager and CNC numerical control operator where he fabricated parts for the NASA Space Shuttle Programs. He retired from Rockwell International in 1991 at the age of 69 years old.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Dixon Ferris and Louise Madison; his son, Jerry Wayne Madison; and his first wife, Mildred Madison.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linnie "Ilean" (Mizell) Turpen Madison; his daughter, Tanya Cantrell and her husband, Albert; his son, Lyle Lee Madison and his wife, Patty; his son, Roger Madison and his wife, Karen; his daughter-in-law, Linda J. Madison; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his stepdaughters, Karen Payne and her husband, Lloyd, Margaret Davis and her husband, Dennis and Sherry Poindexter Turpen; 9 step-grandchildren; and 16 step-great grandchildren.
Jerry was a member in good standing with the Tulsa Engineering Club, Aerospace Local 952, Springdale Baptist Church and the VFW Post 1001 of Tulsa, OK.
"Grandpa Jerry's" family and friends will miss his gentle words, kind, giving heart and his love for every grandchild that entered in the family. Ba-doo-be-doop!!!
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
