Please share a memory of Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Irene Ingersoll Conques, age 89 of Schertz, Texas, passed away on September 4, 2010. She was born to Verdie Everet Ingersoll and Prudence Brown Ingersoll on September 22, 1920, in Salina, Oklahoma.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters: Allene Ingersoll Smith, Jean W. Ingersoll, and Doris Ingersoll Murphy. She is survived by her brothers, Charles Elmer Gray and James Eddie Gray, of Sacramento, California; her former spouse, Colonel Lawrence Conques, USAF Retired, of Schertz; and her three children and their families: Colonel Duane Lowell Conques, USAF Retired, and his wife, Loula Solomon Conques, of Schertz; Deborah Conques Burns of Hollywood, California; and Anthony Lawrence Conques and his wife, Kathleen Mulvihill Conques, of Fairfax, Virginia. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and close friends. She was a kind person who was loved by all who knew her.
Irene was a 1939 National Honor Society graduate of Central High School in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and became the principal's secretary. She married in 1942 and began an adventure across America and Europe. She was at the July 4, 1951, ceremony in St. Paul's Cathedral in London attended by the Queen of England and General Dwight D. Eisenhower. Later in life she became a successful real estate agent in Fairfax. Her Mount Vernon Realty photograph is seen above. She was a devout Baptist and loved her family, placing both before herself. For the past two years, she resided at the Silver Tree Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Schertz, where she enjoyed being close to family, renewing friendship with her former spouse (also a resident), and making many new friends. She was looking forward to her 90th birthday this month and attending the wedding of her granddaughter, Colette Dugas Conques, in October, an occasion to be attended by all her descendants. Sadly, her weak heart could not take her any further. She is now in Heaven.
Graveside services and internment will be held at 10:00 A. M. Monday, September 13, 2010 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
