Obituary of Eldoris McCondichie

Please share a memory of Eldoris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
"She was a voice of gladness, and a smile, And an eloquence of beauty, And she glides." In the sweetness of the morning light, heaven sent a blessing to Howard Charles and Harriet Agusta (Warren) Ector. This beautiful baby girl was born September 8, 1911 in Tyler, Texas and Christened Eldoris Mae. The Ector family moved to Tulsa, OK in 1915. Eldoris attended the Tulsa Public Schools graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in May 1930. She met and married Arthur Jonathan McCondichie on May 1, 1930. They parented five children, three sons and two daughters. After sixty Seven years the bonds of this beautiful marriage were broken by the home going of her beloved Arthur. Eldoris managed her catering business for many years. She was known for culinary skills, her delicious cookies, pastries and spiced tea. She served Tulsa's finest families. Confessing a hope in Christ, Eldoris was baptized at an early age attending The Church of Christ with her mother. Later, she united with The First Baptist Church, North Tulsa under the pastorate of the Rev. Mitchell. She served in many capacities but her joy and longevity was working with the children and youth. Every Tuesday night found her at the church teaching a Bible Study to the young people. She guided and shaped many lives during the thirty plus years she worked as a youth counselor. She was loved, highly respected and always found faithful in her Christian walk. Eldoris is a survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot. Always vivid in her memory, she shared the horror and fear of the brutality during the killing and burning of Black people in North Tulsa. She gave historical accounting to CBS and to other news media. She considered The Riot a very dark time in the history of North Tulsa. A lover of plants, Eldoris could be found working in her yard planting flowers and rose bushes. She loved a pretty yard and did much of the work herself. It was not unusual to find beautiful center pieces throughout her home made from her flower garden. Her favorite flower was the Red Rose. Eldoris loved her Lord. She was diligent about giving praise and sharing her testimony with her family. Her favorite song was "Close To Thee" and she loved quoting the Doxology "The Lord Bless and Keep You." She loved to travel but not on the airplane. She enjoyed baking cookies at Christmas and sharing them with her grandkids. All the "kids" loved Gramma's cookies and Gramma loved all the kids. With Heaven on her mind, Eldoris expressed her readiness to "Go Home" on Friday, September 10th, her feet caught step with the rhythm of Heaven and she exchanged her earthly cross for a Heavenly crown. Saddened by her leaving but rejoicing in her victory are her children Herbert (Carolyn) of Jefferson City, MO, Richard (Carolyn), Doris Jean Fields (Otho) and Regina McCondichie all of Tulsa, OK; an adopted daughter, Andrea Williams of Philadelphia, PA, 16 Grandchildren and 11 great Grandchildren. Her son, Elbor and her brother Samuel have preceded her in death. "Thou go not, like the quarry slave at night, But sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust, Approach thy grave, like one who wraps the drape of his couch about and lies down to pleasant dreams."
