Obituary of C. Dewayne Brooks

Please share a memory of C. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Clarence "Dewayne" Brooks, 57 was born in Russell, Kansas on April 23, 1953 to Clarence Elven and June Brooks. The family moved to Owasso, OK, where they made their home. Dewayne graduated from Owasso High School in 1971, where he was active in sports. He earned his degree in Commercial Art through Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology. Dewayne married Sonya Puckett and had two children, Brandon Dewayne and Tanea Nicole. Dewayne was comforted the last few years by his faithful companions, his two precious poodles, Lucy and Bailey. Dewayne was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Brooks. Dewayne is survived by his mother, June Brooks, Owasso, one son, Brandon Brooks, Broken Arrow, one daughter, Tanea Brooks, LA, California, one grandson, Cole Brooks, brother, Greg (Nancy) Brooks, brother, Stan Brooks, sister, Renee Brooks, all of Owasso. Also, survived by lifelong friends considered as family, Mike Tinker, Rick Shuck and Kim Casey. Dewayne was a man of deep faith, a true believer and lived his life in the footsteps of Jesus. He was about living a LIFE ABOVE EXCELLENCE. He cared more for others than he did himself. He believed in people when they didn't believe in themselves. He was instrumental in improving the quality of life in many others. He instilled in others that they could be whoever they wanted to be and that THE IMPOSSIBLE CAN BE MADE POSSIBLE through FAITH, WILL, DESIRE and of course a lot of hard work. While Dewayne might not have had much to say, you knew what he stood for and by the way he led his life. And some have said that when he had something to say 'you might ought to have listened'. Dewayne was very proud of his Cherokee Indian heritage. He was so grateful to his tribe for providing the right medical attention he needed. Even though Dewayne was Indian and he was a fiver, he was not an Indian giver He was EXTREMELY LOYAL and EXCEPTIONALLY KIND, WHICH SOME WOULD SAY IT WAS TO A FAULT AT TIMES. One of Dewayne's passions was the City of Jenks and the people that made up the community. He never had a hidden agenda behind his position as Vice Mayor. He also has been a member of the City Council since 1995. Before running for council he served on the Jenks Planning Commission. A longtime member of Jenks Chamber of Commerce, Dewayne was active in Chamber events, and in 2006 the Chamber presented him with its' Gershman Leadership Award for his service to the community. Dewayne had been active with the Jenks Jaycees and other civic groups. He genuinely cared for the betterment of the City and the people in it. He thoroughly enjoyed helping oversee the aquarium, riverwalk and several other of the City's projects. Dewayne also was honored to carry on the fourth generation of his family's dry cleaning business by starting his own shop in Jenks, America, where he was remained in the same location for over 35 years. His motto on the window was "we clean with care the clothes you wear." Dewayne believed in the quality of life and that transferred over into his work, in the quality of service. He was confident that he could remove stains that others might have difficulty with and no pant leg left the shop with a double crease. In Dewayne's adult years he enjoyed: Music, food, art, movies, Indian crafts, developing Jenks, and as corny as it sounds spreading love and joy to others. Dewayne was a good son, brother, uncle, friend, husband, father, and Lutheran-Christian. He was unique and an Outstanding Individual. He WAS an honorable man. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Ninde Brookside 742-5556.
