James Theodore Gavrilys was born January 17, 1924 in Highland Park, MI the son of Theodore J. and Mary (Coukoulis) Gavrilys. He fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in Joliet, IL at the age of 86.
Jim served in the Air Force during WWII as a tail gunner on a B-17 which flew 36 missions in the South Pacific. He graduated from Drake University. He was co-builder of the family owned Ted's Famous Grill in Coffeyville, Kansas. He retired from Cork, Crown & Seal, Inc. (formerly known as Continental Can Company) as a manager of human resources for thirty-five years. He was a sixty-five year current member of the Post 20 American Legion in Coffeyville, Kansas, A.H.E.P.A. vice president in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, a Shriner and member of the Lion's Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Klentos) Gavrilys; his son, Theodore James Gavrilys; his daughter, Constance Tina Lehpamer and her husband Michael all of Joliet, IL; his grandchildren, Tony, Lisa and Jimmy Gavrilys, Nicole and Melissa Lehpamer; his sister, Pauline Gavrilys of Coffeyville, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jacque Gavrilys. Trisagion prayers will be 6:00 p.m., Monday in Ninde Brookside Chapel. Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, November 30th in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with interment following in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.
