Leatrice Rowan Petty "Lea," was born April 11, 1925 in Goodman, MO to L.G. and Neoma (Ellis) Rowan. She passed from this life December 5, 2010 at the age of 85. Lea attended Tulsa schools and was a 1942 graduate of Tulsa Central High School. She met Robert J. "Bob" Petty and they were married May 8, 1945 following his return from World War II.
Lea was a dedicated mother and homemaker, and was very supportive of her children's educational, athletic, and extra-curricular activities. She placed a great value on education and often read aloud to her children and was known as a very animated story teller. She was also fond of getting out in the backyard to play baseball or sitting down on the floor for a game of "Jacks." Lea loved flowers and was always planting; she took great pride in her pink Dogwood trees. She had a great love of music and dancing, and was a talented pianist often playing classical music at home for her family.
Lea was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school. Over the years, she was involved with many social and civic activities. She was member of the Assistance League of Tulsa and, as a provisional member she worked with many foreign students at the University of Tulsa. She also modeled the latest clothing for fashionable retail stores at luncheons and style shows. Lea also served as president of the Kiwanitas the same year that Bob served as president of the Kiwanis Club.
Lea was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert J. Petty in 2009 and a grandson, Justin B. Hahn in 1991. She is survived by her children, R. Scott Petty and his wife, Maureen of Tulsa, Dianne Hahn and her husband, Jimmy of Oklahoma City, Bradley J. Petty of Tulsa and Michael R. Petty and his wife, Linda of Leawood, KS; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
