Obituary of Joe Nanny

Joe Nanny was born in Tulsa on June 8, 1929 in Tulsa and was the adopted son of Woodrow "Woody" and Lavone Nanny. He passed from this life at home Monday, August 27, 2012 at the age of 83. He graduated from Tulsa's Central High School in 1948 and received his Bachelor's degree in Business from Oklahoma State University, where he was a member of SAE fraternity.
After graduation, Joe served as a Lieutenant in the US Army serving in the Korean War where he led a company on the 38th Parallel. Joe loved and participated in all sports, so he came naturally to his career in retail sporting goods management. His career took the family to Kansas City, San Francisco, Laguna Niguel and then to Houston where he retired from Oshman's Sporting Goods as Chief Operating Officer. After retiring, the family returned to Tulsa to be of support to his parents. He reunited with good friends and made many new ones at the Oaks Country Club and the Tulsa Men's Club.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kathy; children, Sarah Stephens and her husband, Tim of Houston, Susan Nanny of St. Louis, Cindy Stuart of Tulsa, and Criss Ann Clarke and her husband, Todd of Beaumont, TX. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Taylor, Margaux, Peter, Zachary, Caroline, Eli, Jordan, Sophie, Sarah Lou and 1 great grandchild, Eloise. Other close family members are John, Cindy, and Sean Nanny of Tulsa; Jill and Matt Cannizzaro; Justin and Amy Edlich.
Many thanks to Dr. Robert Hauger and his staff, St. Francis Hospice and Senior Helpers who were devoted, professional, supportive and caring during Joe's journey with Alzheimer's.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, August 30, 2012 at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 5635 E. 71st Street. A reception will follow at the church.
