Came across online looking for the family of Rosa Burner and family some years back. Notice that she had a number of children, and decided that look into them, plus her sister Emma and brother Charles in Colorado. Found Emma in California and her mother Evalina Frances McKitrick Burner, maiden name Elsom from Virginia. She is buried in Santa Cruz along with Emma in 1941. If you like to know why am looking in to your family, is because my wife side belongs to Rosa half sister Amanda B McKitrick Culbertson, she died, if I can remember in 1897 Kansas she had one son William M Culbertson . Evalina also had a son before Amanda in 1868 Ohio, he died in 1927. The family here has a picture of Amanda taken abt 1893 with her son. We have more in if you like to know. George would be my wife and sisters and one brother Wayne third cousins. Thanks, and very sorry for your lost indeed.

Heather, Mary Alice & family was aware of Jim's health problems but his passing was still a shock. Jim has been considered a member on the Jaynes family for many years. He NEVER missed visiting my dad when he was in Hoisington and always said he was the 3rd son, (sorry Mary Alice) of which both Dad, Craig and I agreed. He made his 1st major impression on me, when he was such a supporter of a tentative soph basketball player and he was the "Stud" senior leading scorer. (I think it was because I would pass him the ball) ....(I won't mention the 1st beer I drank with Jim in Susank). Anyway, he was faithful in supporting me & my family, even though I always thoght he had a crush on my wife,.......just kidding....you know Jim, he always made everyone feel special. Some of the newspaper articles (Wichita Eagle and KC Star) from my 1967 football and baskeball seasons were sent to me by Jim.....can you imagine that!! Anyway, he was a special guy and we will miss him. All the best.... Brent and Elizabeth Jaynes and Family.

Jim was truly a very dear friend to me throughout our years at Hoisington High and KSTC. He always managed to reach out as years passed even it was via Christmas cards. We had a great phone conversation in the fall of 2009 following a sorority reunion I attended back in Emporia. He was thrilled that a sorority sister brought with her to the reunion a picture of Jim escorting her to a gala affair, complete with his white sportcoat tux and, of course, a corsage for her. Jim always being a true gentleman as well as being kind and compassionate. My heartfelt sympathy to his family.

Jim was a friend for over 40 years. Back in those "early years" we had some great times in Tulsa. After we moved back to California we lost touch for a little while but in recent years we did get to see Jim a few times and always kept in touch by phone. I will miss the great conversations we had and the laughs remembering the "good old days". We are having trouble imagining a world without Big Jim in it. He will be missed.

Heather and all of Jim's family. Please accept Sue and my heartfelt sympathy and sorrow for the loss of Jim from our lives. He and I established our acquaintance and friendship in high school. I was undecided about where I would attend college and he not only influenced me to go to Kansas State Teacher College now Emporia State University), he also accepted me as his roommate our Freshman year. I will always have many fond, upbeat memories of him. He will be missed by many. Reality is that we are here on this earth a short period of time and will be together again shortly. God bless and keep you all as he is keeping Jim today. Sincerely, Roy and Sue Reif

We all grew up in Hoisington, KS. Hoisington was a small town of about 4,000 people. Jim was a Senior when I was a Freshman. For some reason Jim took me under his wing and always made sure that I was included in many activities that were going on. Seniors didn't do that for Freshmen. Why me? Jim, Mike Wildgen, and Dennis Smith used to threaten to take me out to the Catholic Cemetery at night, tie me to a headstone with a jockstrap and leave me out there alone. They never did, but it seems like we always made a drive out in that direction when I was in the car...LOL.
Hoisington's mascot is the "Fighting Cardinals". One thing that I will always remember about Jim is that in December of my Freshman year, I received a Christmas card with Cardinals on the front of it. It was from Jim. Now what Senior in 1964 mails out individual Christmas cards and what Senior would ever think about sending a Christmas card to a Freshman? Jim did. I held onto that card for years. I'll never forget how kind he was to me.
I saw Jim almost every holiday. He never failed to stop by Paula's parents home and visit with them and the rest of the Carlile family. When Paula's Dad was in long term care, Jim always made a point of stopping by to visit with Paul. For that I will always be thankful.
God Bless You Jim...Gary

You were the best thing that ever happened to him---and he loved you so much! He had a gift for making friends, and I'll always remember that laugh! Jake remembers his Donald Duck voice!! Healther... Paula and I knew Jim most of our lives. Jim's family lived next door to Paula's. Jim was so kind to Paula's Mom (Dora) and Dad (Paul). If he was in Hoisington, he'd always stopped by to check on them. For that Paula and I will be forever grateful. We were both proud to have him as a friend. For some reason, he used to call me "Shubert"...I'll never know why, but it was a term of endearment. Our Christmas cards were always addressed to Gary "Shubert" & Paula Schwein. We are so sorry for your loss and you have our deepest sympathy.

There are so many things in life that we can't explain. I believe that we aren't supposed to understand absolutely everything. But I do know that all those years, growing up, Uncle Jim was larger than life. I don't know why, or how, but he was. He just was. To me, he still is. That's how I remember him, and always will.

I was in your dad's class of '65. We first became friends in the eigth grade when we played basketball together in the paved alleyway at the old house in the east part of town (Jim was multiples better at the game than I). I once suffered a broken toenail as I brushed a flower pot onto my foot from a windowsill in your grandparent's house (tennis shoes didn't afford enough protection). Your dad was a tall, good looking "sun-of-a-gun", well liked by the whole school, intelligent, and upbeat with a great future in front of him. I was aware of his poor health; but, of course, no one is ever ready to give up a friend. I am sorry for your loss and hope God will give you grace as you move forward. Duane Ochs
