Betty (Young) Thames was born September 30, 1924 in Winterport, Maine to Calvin and Gracie (Evans) Young. She passed peacefully from this life Monday, May 2, 2011 at the age of 86. Betty graduated from Winterport High School in 1940 at the age of 16. On October 3, 1944 she married James R. (Jimmie) Thames in Bangor, Maine. Jimmie was in the Army Air Corps stationed in Newfoundland, before moving to Berryhill they lived for a short time in Maine, California and Florida. They raised three children. Betty was a homemaker, involved in PTA, being a homeroom mother, Blue Birds, Cub Scouts, and many various school activities. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and whenever she had time, reading. Most important of all she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Philip Young, and her husband of 51 years, Jimmie and son Monty M. Thames. She is survived by her son Gerry G. Thames and his wife Linda, daughter Kandia K. Anderson and her husband Steve, daughter-in-law Terri Lynn Thames, grandchildren, Kara (Anderson) Atherton, Dustin Thames, Krista Anderson, Joey Thames, Nash Thames and Nathan Thames, great grandchildren, Travis Atherton, Aidan Atherton and Logan Grant, her sisters, Winona Kessock of Brewer, Maine and Frances Vantassel and husband Albert of Springfield, Massachusetts.
