Obituary of Guy Britton

Guy J. Britton was born on September 4, 1916 in Sapulpa, OK, the second son of Orestus Guy and Kathleen (Rose) Britton. Guy died suddenly on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at St. John's Medical Center in Owasso, OK at the age of 94.
He graduated from Cleveland High School, Cleveland, OK in 1934 and attended Tulsa Business College. He entered the U.S. Army in January 1941. On December 8, 1942 he married Mildred I. Gurney and then left for overseas assignment with the U. S. Army XIV Corps in the South Pacific. Guy served in Guadalcanal, Vella La Vella, New Georgia, Bougainville and Luzon, Philippines.
He returned to the Tulsa area in August 1945 where he began working in the accounting department at Skelly Oil Company. He retired from Getty Oil Company in 1978. In 1998 he moved to the Baptist Village in Owasso where he made many friends. He volunteered at the American Red Cross and Owasso Community Resources and did tax preparation with AARP for many years. He had a life-long love of music and played the clarinet in high school and in the Tulsa Community Band. He was a member of Brookside Baptist Church in Tulsa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters, Susie and Maxine; his wife, Mildred; two brothers, Glen and Dale Britton, and nieces, Elayne Brown and Joyce Kuenkel. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Fran Britton, of Yukon, OK and Dennis and Diane Britton, of Fairfax, VA; a sister-in-law, Harriet Britton, of Cleveland, OK; five granddaughters, Susan Scavitto, of Yukon, OK, Carrie Weir, of Rugby, UK, Sarah Brush, of Littleton, CO, Lauren Britton, of Richmond, VA and Carris Britton, of Fairfax, VA; four great- grandsons and one great- granddaughter. He was looking forward to the birth of his sixth great -grandchild in October.
The family will receive friends from 5 -7 P.M. Wednesday at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Baptist Village Chapel in Owasso, OK. He will be laid to rest privately at Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland.
