Obituary of Mary Jane Metevelis

Mary Metevelis, 94, of Tulsa, fell asleep in the Lord, April 29, 2014. She was born November 5, 1919 in Pryor, Ok to the late James Dimokas and Anna Dimokas George. Following her father’s death, she moved to Oklahoma City where she was raised by her mother and step-father Andrew George. She was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, aunt and godmother. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church where she served in many capacities including the choir. She was an avid gardener, and china painter among other activities. She was an active member of The Daughters of Penelope and past member of the Happy Hoofers dance group. Mary volunteered many hours for Meals-on-Wheels, Hospice, and other charitable organizations.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Pete G. Metevelis; brother George A. George of Norfolk, VA, sister Louise Toontas of Oklahoma City. She is survived by her sons, George Metevelis and his wife, Martha; Mike Metevelis; daughter Stacie Hronas and her husband Dean of Little Rock, AR, daughter-in-law Cathey Metevelis, sister-in-law Marina Metevelis, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. The family extends a special thank you to her caregiver Carolyn Edmondson and Grace Hospice.
Mary will lie in state 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and a Trisagion will be held 6:00 p.m. Friday, both at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. A funeral will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with final interment at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
