Obituary of Roy Lee Danner
Please share a memory of Roy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Roy Lee Danner, Jr. was born on May 17, 1940, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Roy Lee Danner and Verdie Mae (Passmore) Danner. Roy died on Friday, June 20, 2014, at the age of 74.
Roy was a child of God. He is survived by his wife, Fran of the home; son Evanson Danner, daughter-in-law Lisa, grandchildren Victoria and Thomas of Long Grove, IL, and granddaughter Alyssa Hunter and her husband Jerom and soon-to-be-born great-grandson Remington of Lemon Grove, CA; son Randall Danner of Texas; and 3 step-children: son, Thomas McVeigh, daughter-in-law Angie, and grandchildren Joey and Samantha of Redondo Beach, CA; daughter Michelle Holloway, and her significant other Marc McClanahan, and grandson Conley of Edmond, OK; and daughter Marcella Madera-Obrecht, and son-in-law Mark Obrecht of Austin, TX.
In high school Roy was a jock. He was captain of the football team, was senior class president, elected prom king, and played Curly (the lead role) in the musical Oklahoma, the senior play. He never bragged about his accomplishments, but Fran dragged it out of him after several years of marriage.
Roy’s boyhood dream was to be a soldier; it’s the only thing he ever wanted to be. Right after high school graduation, Roy signed up for the Army and was assigned to the First Infantry, The Big Red One. In Germany, he met and married Mary Fiegle and had two sons, Evanson Danner and Randall Danner. After serving for 20 years, Roy retired and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer 3. After the Army, Roy became a real estate broker and opened his own office in OKC where he had 32 associates. After 5 years as a broker, Roy sold his business and moved to Tulsa where he continued as a commercial real estate broker. Once he really retired from real estate, he took a sales job at a golf store and stayed there until he retired for good and concentrated on his golf.
Roy was reared in a Christian home; his paternal grandfather was a country Baptist preacher. Not only did Roy sing in the choir when he was a young man, he was the choir director in one of the many churches he attended as he and his family moved around the world. He had a beautiful tenor voice and people often complimented him when he sang at church.
Roy will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man who loved God and his wife and family. Roy and Fran met at a dance in 1997, started dating, and married September 25, 1999. They shared many happy times with family and friends, traveled around the United States, played cards with friends and family, and watched many moves, their favorite pastime. Roy loved golf and, until his health deteriorated, he played 6 days a week, weather permitting. His other interests as a young man were bass fishing and bird hunting. He coached his elder’s son’s baseball team in Germany. Roy always had a dog around, even in Vietnam. So after retiring from the Army, he raised prize-winning German Shepherds. Roy had an artistic side. At an Army base in Germany, he constructed a mobile of airplane parts and hung it in one of the hangers. He also constructed an art piece called “The Kiss” which hangs in his son’s home in IL. He also collected art and crystal pieces. Roy was an accomplished dancer and enjoyed dancing with Fran whenever possible.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 11th at 2:00 P.M. Christ United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Street Cats, 6520 East 60th St., Tulsa, OK 74145, or online at www.streetcatstulsa.org.
