Obituary of Alvin Leroy Griffin

Alvin Leroy Griffin was born August 21, 1935 in Talala, OK to Ellie B. & Etta (Broadbent) Griffin and passed from this life on June 23, 2014 in Jennings, OK at the age of 78.
Alvin worked many years driving a truck to provide a good life for family. His wife Barbara was the love of his life. Upon retirement they enjoyed taking trips together with friends and family to see sights and do a little gambling along the way. He was often involved with various sports organizations as his sons grew up. Alvin coached youth baseball teams from second grade through American Legion ball in high school. He was involved with the quarterback club during football and basketball seasons as well. He liked teaching kids about sports and life during these times. The boys he coached continued to call him coach even after they were adults. His relatives used to say that Alvin was a natural athlete when he was younger, he could play baseball and wrestle with the best. At the young age of seventeen he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served his country during the Korean War.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years, Barbara Jean (Waffle) Griffin; his sisters, Bonnie Marie Hammonds, Inez Carter, and Iona Mae Griffin; his brothers, Coleman Griffin, Albert Griffin, Lyman Griffin, and Bill Griffin. He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-laws, Don & Debbie Griffin, Ron & Paula Griffin and Mike & Kim Griffin; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
Alvin will lie in state 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and his funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, both at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery.
