Obituary of Carl B. Frieberg

Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carl B. Frieberg was born August 22, 1919 in Houtzdale, PA to Gustave and Ragna (Johanson) Frieberg. He passed away from this life Friday, January 23, 2015 at the age of 95. While growing up in Houtzdale as the youngest of nine children, Carl and his family attended the Swedish speaking Bethel Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. Carl served in World War II during which time he met Bartha Lena Bock and they were married August 24, 1946. They moved to Tulsa in 1946 where their two children, Timothy and Amy, were born. During their marriage they were faithful members of First Lutheran Church and served their community through Lion’s Club and Lion Tamers. Carl and Bartha were married for 37 years before her untimely death in January 1984. In 1987, Carl married Myrtice Foristell and they were married for 27 years until his passing. Carl was a devoted husband and father who had unconditional love for his family. His profound and dedicated faith in Christ was shown by how he lived. Most of all, he was a wonderful dad, grandpa, great grandpa and uncle. His family and friends could always count on him to listen and provide advice or a kind word or joke. Carl was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing, baseball, golf, bowling and gardening and shared his passion for the outdoors with his family and many friends. One of his favorite yearly fishing trips was to go with his family to Roaring River State Park in Missouri to catch trout. He loved working crossword puzzles every day and singing barbershop. There was always energetic laughter, stories and jokes from Carl. Carl was a member and past President of Tulsa Downtown Lion’s Club for over 60 years. He was awarded in 1992 the prestigious Melvin Jones Award for his service in Lion’s Club. He was chairman for organizing the yearly Tulsa Boat Show. When Carl joined First Lutheran Church in 1947 he joined choir and over his years of membership served as Congregational President, Member of Church Council, Sunday School Superintendent, and helped organize the yearly Messiah presentations. Carl helped lay the cornerstone of the church building. Carl was a loving, wonderful and loyal friend, uncle, father, grandfather, and husband. Carl will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Carl is survived by his wife, Myrtice; son and daughter-in-law Tim and Laura Frieberg; daughter Amy Frieberg; granddaughter and grandson-in-law Sarah and Tim White; grandson Joshua Simmons; great grandson Hendrix White; and many nieces and nephews.
