Obituary of Charles Edward Malone

Charles Edward Malone passed away February 13, 2015, at the age of 92 in Tulsa. Chuck had a long, deep affiliation with the University of Tulsa; first as a student, made possible by the G.I. Bill, and then as faculty in a role where he was responsible for starting a nationally recognized recruiting program that brought thousands of students to TU over a span of more than three decades. He served as TU’s Dean of Admissions & Records and was elected president of the National Association for College Admission Counseling. Chuck earned his bachelors and masters degrees from TU in the fields of psychology and religion. In retirement, his passion turned to acting. He was featured in dozens of feature films, TV and print ads. Chuck had a life-long love of his family, travel and music. Chuck was born in Altus, Okla., to Helen and Edward Malone. He spent most of his childhood in El Reno, Okla., where he, his mother and sister, Marjorie, lived in a room upstairs from a pool hall and restaurant operated by his uncle. Chuck worked numerous jobs in his youth, including as a drugstore soda jerk. Chuck was a veteran; he served in the Army Air Corps, stationed in Spokane, WA, He is survived by his wife, Pat Malone; four daughters and their husbands, Gloria and Jerry Smith, Kerry Malone Stancavage and John Stancavage, Lisa Malone and Jody Tidwell, Lori Malone and Brett Swearingen; nephew, Richard Cox; six grandchildren, Angela Covey, Amanda Carruthers, Molly Tidwell, Kaitlyn Tidwell, Lilly Swearingen and Truman Swearingen; and three great grandchildren, Lauren Covey, Olivia Carruthers and Amelia Carruthers. All reside in Tulsa with the exception of Cox, of Plano, TX, and Smith, Coveys and Carruthers, of Ashburn, VA. Chuck was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Marjorie Cox. A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 17th at Sharp Chapel on the campus at the University of Tulsa. Ninde Brookside Chapel 918-742-5556. www.ninde.com.
